Creating an accessible Saskatchewan
The Accessible Saskatchewan Act came into force on December 3, 2023. The purpose of this legislation is to prevent and remove barriers for persons with disabilities. This supports the government's goal of building strong, inclusive communities for persons with disabilities.
The Act requires the Government of Saskatchewan to develop an accessibility plan to identify, prevent, and remove accessibility barriers that people experience when using Government of Saskatchewan facilities, programs, and services experience.
Government supports the principle, "Nothing about us without us." It is important that we hear from the people of Saskatchewan, especially persons with disabilities. The Government of Saskatchewan conducted an accessibility survey from April 15 until May 10, 2024. The survey asked about accessibility barriers persons with disabilities may experience when they use government facilities, programs and services.
On March 1, 2024, the government established the Accessibility Advisory Committee to provide advice to government on proposed accessibility standards, as well as public awareness and education initiatives.
