Accessibility legislation in Canada


Like Saskatchewan, other jurisdictions in Canada have, or are developing, accessibility legislation. 


  • The federal government has an accessibility act and is working on regulations:

  • Ontario has an accessibility act and regulations:

Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (2005)


  •  Manitoba has an accessibility act and has completed some regulations:

The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (2013)

Customer Service Accessibility Standard (2015)

Employment Accessibility Standard (2019)

Accessible Information and Communication Standard Regulation (2022)

Accessible Transportation Standard Regulation (2023)


  • Quebec has an act that protects the rights of people with disabilities within public sector organizations:

 Act to secure handicapped persons in the exercise of their rights (1978)

Regulation of the Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (1981) 


  • Nova Scotia has an accessibility act and regulations:

  • British Columbia has an act and regulations:
